An invitation from Volker Huber to Hundertwasser to contribute a sheet to a portfolio initially seemed relatively simple: Alberto della Vecchia suggested developing a screen print from the watercolor Head with White Windows painted by Hundertwasser in Rome in 1954. However, the specified print run of 10,000 copies resulted in something completely different, something unique. The artist discovered the technical possibility of printing an almost infinite variation of colors. The idea of producing 10,000 different variations, i.e. only one of each color composition, fascinated Hundertwasser. It was like the fulfillment of his dream of creating as many unique prints as possible and bringing them to as many people as possible. The result was 10,002 different prints, each one in a different color composition.
